There is nothing more annoying than having to listen to someone else snore while you try to fall asleep. Snoring, can be funny or irritating to others, but it can also be a sign of a more serious medical problem which should not be ignored.
Are you Really Sleeping?
Snoring is problem not only for older men but for women and young children as well. Snoring occurs when air cannot pass through his or her mouth while sleeping. Snoring is caused by a combination of your mouth, throat, tongue, palate, uvula, tonsils, and adenoids all shaking beside each other.
Snoring is also a cause of a more serious sleep disorder sleep apnea. This is where the person is asleep but their breathing is stopped for a short period of time. This limits the oxygen to their body, and causes them to wake up with headaches and feel tired the whole day. People who suffer from sleep apnea usually don’t know it.
Solutions to Stop Snoring
There are hundreds of products and devices out there which you can buy that will alert you when you start snoring, or even zap you. Needless to say, these products may work only because they keep you awake more than you are asleep.
An easy snoring cure that anyone can try is to elevate their bed a few inches upward or by using a pillow to elevate your head. You can also try sleeping on your side rather than your back. Also try avoiding big meals or alcohol before you go to bed. These are only a few suggestions for those who only snore occasionally.
You can also try wearing the small white strips that you see football players wearing on their nose. This helps them to breathe easier while running, but they can also help to improve airflow while you sleep. These can be used to help people who are trying to stop snoring.
If you start snoring on a daily basis or your snoring becomes more deeper, you may want to go see your doctor. He will be able to check how well your nasal passage or airway are. Your tonsils or adenoids may be the cause of an obstructed airway which is causing you to snore at night. If your tonsils and adenoids are enlarged they will be able to remove them with a simple surgical procedure.
Other Solutions to Stop Snoring
Other people may have a problem snoring but it may not be due to enlarged tonsils or adenoids. It may be due to the fact that they are overweight. They just need to make a simple lifestyle change in their diet and exercise daily. It is also wise to create a regular sleeping pattern and remove anything which may cause allergies.
If your doctor thinks you may suffer from sleep apnea you’ll be given a test. This is usually done in a clinic over night where you’ll be hooked up to machines which will monitor your heart rate, breathing, movements, and airflow in your body. If you do find out that you have a sleeping disorder, the best thing is that the test doesn’t hurt or harm you in any way. You literally sleep right through it! Once the doctors can diagnose what is wrong with you, you will be able to start treatment. This may be due to simple lifestyle changes, taking some medications, or even surgery if necessary.
Solving your snoring problem will allow everyone to breathe and sleep better.
