Central Sleep Apnea

If you snore, you may have a serious condition known as central sleep apnea. While you sleep if you suffer from a decrease or stoppage in breathing then you may have a problem with the signals which are sent from your brain to your body telling it when to breath.

The most recognizable symptom of central sleep apnea is loud snoring, always sleepy during the day, or you feel like you were restless the whole night. Excessive sleepiness during the daytime will become more noticeable over months and even years in a person. You will find that you are tired while you drive, talk, or working. People who suffer from sleep apnea are prone to get into a car accident due to hypersomnolence or neurocognitive disturbances.

Other symptoms of central sleep apnea include gasping for air in the night, choking, headaches in the morning, fatigue during the day, mood swings, poor concentration, poor judgments, and even weight gain.

The most regular and successful treatment with patients who suffer from central sleep apnea is assisted overnight ventilation. This is where you use other external devices such as a rocking bed or cuirasse. A rocking bed is used to help your diaphragm move up and down with gravity while you sleep. A Cuirasse is a shell the patient wears during night which is connected to a pump which draws your chest out while you sleep.

If you have a snoring problem or want to stop snoring, you should see a physician. You may be suffering from a more serious disease known as sleep apnea.
